Regional Links: Sylvania Wilderness

Our earliest exposure to the unique beauty of the Upper Peninsula was through the inimitable experience of the Sylvania Wilderness. This gorgeous part of the world encompasses over 18,000 acres with 34 lakes and pristine wilderness.

Thanks to regulations designating all the lakes but Crooked Lake as non-motorized, Sylvania offers a true wilderness experience accessible only through canoeing or hiking. Few wilderness areas can match the old growth forests and spectacular lakes. In the winter, the trails are accessible through cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Some of our most inspirational camping trips came on Clark Lake and Loon Lake, where loons call through the night and eagles soar high overhead. With CLT, we hope to capture a little bit of what Sylvania gave to us.
